National AIDS Control Programme (NACP)

  • National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) was launched in 1992 ( 28 years) as a comprehensive programme for prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in India
  • NACP I started in 1992
  • NACP II was launched in November 1999
  • NACP III was launched in July 2007
  • NACP IV was launched in 2012

  • Halting and reversing the epidemic
  • Advocacy
  • Prevention efforts among general population and HRG
  • Integrating HIV infected with Care, Support and Treatment
  • Strengthening District AIDS Prevention and Control Units

National Council on AIDS

  • Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Country is the Chairman of the Council
  • Hon’ble Health and Family Welfare Minister is the vice Chairman of the Council
  • 29Hon’ble Ministers of the Country are Honorable Members
  •  Hon’ble 7 Chief Ministers are also Honorable Members

 

Parliamentary Forum

  • The Lok Sabha Secretariat of the Country formed a Forum named “Millennium Development Goals” in 2013
  • The Forum had few goals including the one to combat HIV/AIDS in the Country

 

HIV and AIDS Act 2017

  • The Human Immune Deficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control ), Act, 2017. Gazette was passed on 20th April 2017
  • Each State will prepare the Rules based on the Act - Tripura prepared the draft Rule named “The Tripura Human Immune-  Deficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (ombudsman and Pseudonymisation) Rules, 2020” as per direction & vetted by Law Department, Govt. of Tripura. The draft rule is yet to be approved by the Cabinet
